Literary Event #14

Shuffling your way through the lines and animated masses, you make your way to the king. All though everyone around you is beholden to this man, you feel disquiet; all this man is, is a bookmarked index of a period of human history that paved the way to more modern forms of exploitation. His smile, charm, “willingness to talk and listen,” all merely propaganda ploys to secure his power. Armed with historical research, you know better than to fall for his tricks.

[Reflection: here, you feel ill at the thought of people from the lower-class paying homage to someone simply due to their exploitative accumulation of wealth. Though this is a practice that existed widely throughout the medieval period, do you think that it continues today? Why or why not?
